What is creative therapy, and its benefits?
Art and creative therapies are treatments that involve activities such as painting, drawing, photography, dance, music, drama, sand tray work, and clay work. There is no need for prior experience or skills, and people of any age can benefit from it.
The aim is to enable a person to communicate their thoughts and feelings, which they find difficult to express, through the creative process. This, in turn, may help a person make sense of what is happening for them, consequently gaining self-awareness. It can also help you connect with your counsellor and can be a great icebreaker.
Creating can be a valuable source of mindfulness by simply being present in the moment and immersing oneself in the activity. It can be done alone or within a group, promoting connection, purpose and better wellbeing.
